Weekend of 6/29 & 6/30 - Christiana og Carlsberg

Saturday started out on a dreary note. The weather in Copenhagen has been mostly overcast and temperate. Although it is nice having the sun up from 4:30am to 11pm, I would like it to be a tad warmer and for the sky to be clearer. It rained until about 4pm but then the sky cleared and it was lovely outside. Lu and I decided to bike to Christiana, Copenhagen's famous autonomous neighborhood. Freetown Christiana was formed in a squatted military base in 1971. Today, approximately there are approximately 850 residents. Rules of Christiana are as follows: 1) no hard drugs 2) no running 3) no photography, as well as a bunch of other unspoken rules.

No photography signs are posted everywhere as to maintain some of Christiana's mystique. It is quite the experience, I suggest checking it out...

Just beyond this no photography sign is Pusher Street. Canabis stalls with popcorn sized bags of marijuana line the streets and people crowd the vendors to see the display.  I thought the hashish were rocks... haha and I was wondering why all these various sized rocks were for sale. Past Pusher Street, is a food court area where people are extremely enjoying their food. We walked to an outdoor stage where a band was performing reggae/ska/ and contemporary beats.

On Sunday, I went to the Carlsberg Brewery. Carlsberg is the fourth largest brewery company in the world, producing about 10% of the world's beer. The decommissioned brewery is a 15 minute bike ride from my residence. Included in our self-guided tour was two beer tastings.

Four granite elephants flank the entrance to the Carlsberg brewery area. Each elephant represents one of Carl Jacobsen's surviving four children.
